College Scholarship Tip for High School Juniors (and other students!)
This scholarship tip for high school juniors will allow them to apply for many more awards, but it must be followed BEFORE they leave school for the summer!
High school juniors, this tip is just for you! (Not a junior yet? You can also use this tip!)
Well before you leave school for the summer (Hint: NOW), ask for letters of recommendation for scholarships from teachers or other school staff. This is crucial for summer scholarship applying, as well as to avoid the crush of students asking for their letters as soon as school resumes in the fall.
To get a higher quality and more personal letter of recommendation, give them a scholarship resume and ask for a letter with specific examples of your hard work, achievements, leadership skills, community service, and employment history.
(Go here for more ideas on what to include in your scholarship resume.)
These little details help the judges get to know you on a deeper level and increase your chances of winning each scholarship.
Also, having your letters of recommendation letters in hand will allow you to apply for scholarships over the summer and get a jump-start on the whole scholarship process.
Waiting until the fall will put you in direct competition with other students who are requesting letters, and your letter writers will be much busier and less apt to spend more time writing you a high-quality letter.
Take this scholarship tip for high school juniors a step further and include a list of scholarships that you plan on applying for and ask your letter writers to copy and paste the names of the scholarship organizations onto each letter.
For example, instead of “To Whom It May Concern,” your letter would start with “Dear Savor Summer Scholarship Committee,” This should be very easy to do if a copy of the letter is saved on a computer or flash drive.
Always remind your letter writers to save copies of the letter and tell them you will be working hard to apply for as many college scholarships as you possibly can.
This is impressive and will give the writers another reason to highly recommend you!
