SMART College Scholarship Tip – Click Around!
This SMART tip helps students find out what the judges are looking for in each applicant and submitted application.
For college scholarships, It pays to click around!
When students apply for scholarships, they need to avoid the temptation to find the application, fill it out, and submit it as quickly as possible.
If they take the time to click around each site of the organizations offering scholarships, they just may find a ton of inside information that can be extremely valuable.
For example, on the website of the Taco Bell Live Más Scholarship, I found this when clicking around:
This is inside information (yet clearly stated on the site if students dig for it) on what the scholarship judges are looking for in their winners!
And this advice from the Newton Pens Scholarship:
The suggestions above from the judges may be very specific to those particular scholarships, so be mindful of that when applying.
To find as much inside advice from the judges as possible, click SMART!
Look for an FAQ section. If found, read it completely.
Scroll down and read everything on the scholarship page.
Find hyperlinks leading to other pages on the sponsor’s website. Click through and read the suggested information.
Take a look at the previous scholarship winners. Read as much as you can about them, including their essays if they are published.
Download copies of my How to Win College Scholarships ebooks. They are filled with advice on how students can impress scholarship judges. The word “judge” is found 105 times in the parent version and 104 times in the student version!
This SMART college scholarship tip is just one example of how students need to apply SMART for scholarships.
