College Scholarship Tip Friday: Check Your Mail!
This college scholarship tip may seem like a no-brainer, but you would be surprised how many students are not doing it. Keep reading…
Students, don’t miss out on money you may have won. Use this easy college scholarship tip DAILY!
Scholarship providers contact students who have been chosen to receive their scholarship money in a few different ways.
Students must regularly check all their email boxes, including spam folders, for notifications and correspondence from scholarship providers.
Many scholarship award letters are also sent via regular mail, so checking the mailbox at home is also vital.
Some organizations will need verification forms filled out and mailed back (or uploaded and sent back electronically) by specific dates, or the scholarship money may be forfeited.
Don’t let that happen!
Check those mailboxes and quickly follow up with any scholarship organization that requests more information. The work is not over until that scholarship check is in a student’s hands or has been mailed and received by the college he or she plans on attending.
If the scholarship is renewable (the money is given yearly), students need to be aware of any grade point requirements and renewal stipulations that come with the award.
In addition, copies of all correspondence with the scholarship organization should be kept in a safe place, together with all the materials submitted when applying.
I’ve actually seen scholarships lost several times on websites that post the winners’ names. When the student does not respond in three days (or whatever timeline is published in the guidelines), a new name appears, as the original student must not have responded. YIKES!!!

What are parents saying about How to Win College Scholarships?
THIS!
“Priceless!!! Monica’s tips helped our family substantially. My oldest daughter will graduate this spring without a single penny paid out of our pockets or hers. She even has over $26K in excess funding.
My youngest daughter has earned enough to cover her bachelor’s and has earned over an additional $11K which she will put towards her master’s degree. The majority of scholarships my daughters earned were not sizable. Most came in $500 and $1000 awards. The smaller scholarships really add up. Your students need a hand full of solid essays to recycle, and you should partner with them to apply relentlessly to every scholarship they qualify for.
Thank you, Monica Matthews, for sharing your wisdom and guidance.” P.S., Texas
